From The College of Optometrists’ CPD drive and education events in contact lens comfort to sustainable practices in Puerto Rico, here’s a glance at the eye care news stories that caught our attention this week.
CL safety and comfort. At two CPD events to launch Cleadew advanced contact lens care this month, Lyndon Jones, Director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE), urged practitioners to consider the most important properties when considering stocking or recommending contact lens solutions. Solution must disinfect the lens by killing bacteria and viruses, at the same time leaving the cornea unharmed, said Jones. Ophtecs’ Cleadew range includes multipurpose solutions and has products for soft, gas permeable and scleral contact lenses. Link
New Seiko coatings range. Seiko announces its “most advanced coatings portfolio ever” – the Super Resistant Clear (SRCTM) collection. The SRC-ULTRA, for example, offers 50 percent lower reflectance than previous Seiko coatings, the company says, ensuring “extremely high contrast and maximum aesthetics.” Link
CPD drive. Between now and the end of the current CPD cycle in December 2024, The College of Optometrists will provide a monthly selection of CPD courses in different formats, with a focus this month on the Communication and Clinical Practice domains. Link
Seeing it through. SeeAbility, which works to support people with learning disabilities, autism, and sight loss, is named as the Association of British Dispensing Opticians’ Eye Care Charity of the Month. The charity was founded as The Royal School for the Blind over 220 years ago. Link
Sustainable practices in Puerto Rico. A CooperVision production site based in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, has received a Platinum Recycling Award and Sustainability Gold at the 15th annual Puerto Rico Sustainability Best Practices, Health and Safety Summit for achieving greater than 90 percent recycling rates, reducing its environmental footprint, and contributing to sustainable development on Puerto Rico.
