As you will know if you’ve been following our regular updates, we recently announced the first winner of our Collaborative Eye Care Award. (You can read our interview with PocketEye here.)
PocketEye edged ahead of a host of excellent submissions to take the prize, but coming a very close second was the ongoing initiative by eye care companies Rayner and Spa Medica to improve patients’ dry eye symptoms around surgery.
More than 75 percent of patients suffer from dry eye symptoms after eye surgery – symptoms that can be managed with the right treatment and education. SpaMedica’s mission began when the company saw that its 24/7 patient helpline had a significant percentage of calls relating to simple dry eye queries post-cataract surgery.
Partnering with Rayner, whose AEON eye drops are designed to help improve patient outcomes around surgery, SpaMedica now provides all of its cataract surgery patients with AEON Protect Plus eye drops (0.3% crosslinked HA).
In addition, the companies have been educating community optometrists on the impact of dry eye symptoms on cataract surgery, helping to ensure positive outcomes for as many patients as possible.
In this video, Rayner’s Ko Lane and SpaMedica’s Christine Purslow talk about their joint efforts around dry eye and explain what the Collaborative Eye Care Award means to them.
