Today, a plethora of screens and smartphones demand our attention – on average we receive around 80 notifications each day ⁽⁴⁾. As a result, our eyes are moving over 100,000 times a day to process all this visual information ⁽⁵⁾. All this activity forces varifocal lens wearers to ease their head movements and causes more difficulty to maintain visual sharpness. To address this very modern problem, Varilux^® XR series™ designers combined the power of behavioural AI with a study of more than 6,500 consumers to enrich their understanding of presbyopes’ lifestyles and visual challenges.  Varilux^® XR series™ lenses offer wearers instantly sharp vision even in motion– that is, seeing things clearly at all distances and feeling reactive and stable, even when they are “on the go” ⁽¹⁾.

Beyond XR-motion™ providing better positioning of the near vision zone, Varilux^® XR track and Varilux^® XR pro lenses offer a further personalised element by incorporating Near Vision Behaviour (NVB). This measurement takes into account the wearer’s visual behaviour, while they replicate a reading task. This then positions the reading zone according to the patient’s natural behaviour and results in an extended near vision width.  This NVB measurement is made of four elements:  the reading distance, the lateral offset, the visual behaviour and the gaze lowering of the presbyope. With this measurement,  EssilorLuxottica can truly understand the presbyope’s profile and provide them with the best possible vision and an enhanced comfort.

With Varilux^® XR series™, wearers benefit from up to 49 percent more broadband vision compared to Varilux^® X series™ ⁽⁶⁾. In independent third-party tests, 79 percent of consumers reported better overall vision compared to their current varifocal lenses ⁽⁷⁾. In addition, 9 out of 10 wearers experienced instant sharpness at all distances ⁽¹⁾.
