The UK’s largest optical exhibition is evolving and expanding with a world-class education program and a new co-located event
From February 24–26, 2024, 100% Optical returns to the ExCeL London with its long-standing education partner, the Association of Optometrists (AOP), and a world-class education program, featuring over 100 hours of CPD sessions across 13 diverse hubs, including the all-new Ophthalmology Theatre and Hub.
New for 2024, 100% Ophthalmology is a co-located event that allows visitors opportunities to network and connect with other parts of the optical community. The event is free for ophthalmic surgeons and their wider teams, with a tailored education program in store. In addition, the exhibition features the latest equipment and instruments from ZEISS, Heidelberg Instruments, Sense Medical | Canon, TopCon, and many others.
Leading brands orchestrating the tailored and curated content in the Ophthalmology Hub across the three days of the event include Birmingham Optical (Saturday, February 24), Haag-Streit UK (Sunday, February 25) and ZEISS (Monday, February 26).
100% Ophthalmology – what to expect
Day One of 100 Ophthalmology features five sessions, including “How to Access Research Funding-Experiences from the Inside Track” – a seminar that aims to encourage the audience to consider applying to Fight for Sight and other similar vision charities for funding. The panel will share experiences and insights, while interacting and engaging with the audience.
Day Two hosts six sessions, including “Guilty Till Proven Otherwise!” – a picture-led, quiz-like presentation on eyelid tumors with Rachna Murthy, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Face Restoration and Jonathan Roos, Consultant Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon.
On Day Three, the session closing the Ophthalmology Theatre’s debut appearance at the show – “Widefield OCT Angiography” with Tariq Aslam, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital – will explore the research and clinical opportunities that have become possible with the advent of wide-field OCT-A. The session will discuss the principles of widefield OCT-A imaging and how it is set to make a major impact particularly in diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy and other retinal vascular disorders.
Other sessions hosted by professionals and specialists across the event’s three days include “Medico-Legal,” “Premium IOL Technology,” “AI in Anterior Segment Disease – What You Need to Know!” and much more.
100% Ophthalmology aims to attract as many ophthalmic professionals and representatives from a combination of optical roles to attend the three day show as possible – including ophthalmologists, nurse consultants, physician associates, ophthalmic photographers, community screeners and health care assistants. Ophthalmology specialists will be on hand to join forces and work collaboratively with optometrists, dispensing opticians, and the wider optical industry.
The Ophthalmology Theatre will serve as a lecture space on the show floor, walled off for privacy, to accommodate 25 people per session. Hoya, TopCon Healthcare, and Sense Medical | Canon are sponsoring one-hour speaking sessions in the Theatre. The program brings together renowned experts and ophthalmology thought leaders to share insights, learnings, and experiences. Each day will be themed to cover diverse topics such as Glaucoma, Cataract Presbyopia, Retina, Refractive, Paediatric, and Cornea.
NHS ophthalmologist Sunil Mamtora says, “This is a really unique opportunity for ophthalmologists to engage with optometrists. 100% Ophthalmology is an event that brings together eyecare professionals under the same roof and that’s really an unmet need in the industry. At 100% Optical, ophthalmologists and optometrists can work together, be together, learn together, and collaborate so that we can ultimately give better care to patients.”
